MYSORE LIFE: Anu’s Cafe

Finding your local is a must to feel at home.

For those in the UK or Ireland the first thought that comes to mind is the local pub. My local looks a little more like an empty room where people can gather and roll out their yoga mats (also known as a yoga studio) and a place that serves up a good cup of coffee. While I’m off the caf. (caffeine) these days in Mysore my local is looking a lot like a banana smoothie bowl. I have grown fond of bananas as you can see here on Light on Food, mainly because you can make almost any vegan dessert with them like my favorite, banana ice cream. Before arriving in Mysore I saw an Instagram post of said banana smoothie bowl and decided it had to be our first food stop.

Mysore: Anu's Cafe

Banana Smoothie Bowl: Bananas, Peanuts, Dates

This local bungalow hideaway is called Anu’s. A home turned restaurant, nourishing the Mysore ashtangi’s with vegetarian lunch buffets from 1-3pm and smoothie bowls and teas in the evening 5-7pm (keeping it light for the early morning practitioners). It took us a few stops outside Anu’s gate to figure out if she was open or if this home was in fact a restaurant, but finally we got the timing right. Anu’s is just one of the local restaurants in Gokulam creating meals with the yogis of Mysore in mind.  While I am eager to share and anxious to discover every restaurant in town, it is only day 2. More to come as the city unfolds!
